Anne Frank House

Description

Anne Frank and her family went into hiding here on July 6, 1942, and lived in isolation for over two years. The German occupation removed all the furniture from the house when the inhabitants were detained in 1944. However, films and other sources, including Anne's diary, give a good idea of what life was like. The museum opened on May 3, 1960, and an enormous visitors' center was constructed in the 1980s.

Wish I could have stayed longer
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
Knowing little actual history of the Frank family, I was fully educated by the time I left their temporary home. I was very moved by the courage, strength and determination of the Franks and their fellow hiders...and Anne certainly puts a very human face on the tribulations of those hiding from the Nazi regime.

AMAZING HISTORY
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
Even though we had to wait in line over an hour this was the best place I have ever been to. The emotions run high here. I would say if in Amsterdam and you miss this it is your loss. WOW

Awesome experience
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
I visited this house and was totally moved by the history and feeling of the house. I had read about it in school and stuff, but it is something you have to experience in person!!. they go through the history of the Franks and it is just hard to believe how they had to live. I would encourage everyone to visit the home at least once.

leave history alone
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
The wait in line was not worth it. I expected so much more than pictures on the wall with adlibs below. It was hot & cramped with slow moving lines to go into every room in the house, personally I would never do it again or recommend doing it to some one I liked.

Go if your there
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
Interesting to see particularly if you've studied it, but a bit of a disappointment if you expect to see how they lived. It's basically empty rooms full of tourists looking just like you.

Amazing Museam
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
This was a place I have been waiting to visit since I 1st read the book as a young girl. It was amazing and a little depressing but def worth seeing. It was hard to locate but once I was there I was very impressed with the way the secret Annex was turned into a place where the world can learned what took place during World War II. You must go visit if you go to Amsterdam!

The Anne Frank House was a great educational/history lesson. However, I was a little depressed about the whole thing.

anne frankhuis

The authentic artifacts are interesting. However, i expected to see more in the way of how the house was actually set up. The captions for each item or event were not acurately translated from Dutch to English. I expected more of a interactive experience.
