Mount Bonnell
Description
One of Austin's oldest tourist attractions, Mount Bonnell is also one of the highest points in the city—there is an incredible view of Lake Austin and the downtown skyline right by the picnic tables. Legend has it that the 99 steps to the top hold enchanting qualities: if a couple climbs the mount once, they fall in love, twice, and they become engaged; three times, and they are destined to be married.
I fell in love with the city. There is so much to do and so much to see. The people of Austin are kind and generous. The life and spirit of Austin is beautiful!
Greate place to go before 10pm and see the sunset from atop Austin. But beware staying after 10pm, even though it's full of cars, because the cops will ticket every single one for parking after hours.
I think the myth about Mt. Bonnell is so true! The second time my fiance and I went up there we got engaged and we're going back soon. We'll be married next year!! I love this place!
Mount Bonnell offers you the best view of Austin. You can have a 360 degree view of the city. It is located between the city and the Colorado river (which Austinites call lake Austin). Just drive Mopac north until you reach the 35th street exit. Take that exit west and drive until you get to a Stop sign with a blinking red light. There you have to take a right onto Mount Bonnell Dr. and then you will need to make to left turns in the following stop signs. You will see the entrance to your right. There is a limited parking area. Be advised that you have to climb a very steep stair.
One hundred steps for a love so true. Two hundred steps brought me closer too you. Three hundred steps our love became two. Mount Bonnell thanks be unto you!
