Museu Picasso
Description
Barcelona's tribute to one of its adopted sons, this fabulous collection is displayed in three adjoining medieval palaces. Picasso was born in Málaga but really started his long artistic career here. At Museu Picasso, you can see all of his most important early works, including engravings, lithographs and pottery. The most famous pieces on display include his Harlequin, a portrait of one of his wives, Jacqueline, and the Las Meninas series. Regular temporary exhibitions focus on different aspects of the artist's activities, for example, his research on landscapes or his foray into theater design. In addition, there are some examples of work by artists from the avant-garde movement.
You won't really find many of Picasso's masterworks here. This museum is mostly devoted to his earlier works, where he was still developing and finding his artistic voice. This is a good museum to view his early artistic history, but isn't very good if you want a broad overview of his work.
Wonderful experience! Don't miss the room with Picasso's work with Las Meninas as well as some early and unusual work eg. work from the south of France, ceramics, his wife Jacqueline. The museum is a little hard to navigate but well worth the effort.
Enjoyable chronological collection of his early works. Enables you to understand the development of Picasso's various periods. The buildings are worth seeing also.
