Kunstmuseum der Stadt Bonn
The Bonn City Art Museum can be found next to the Haus der Geschichte on the so-called museum mile. It's not just the unusual modern 3 cornered building which attracts visitors from all over the world, but also the twentieth century art collection. The emphasis of the permanent exhibition is on the works of German artists, particularly Rhenish expressionism. Works by August Macke, Max Ernst, Campendonk, Schmidt-Rottluff, Kirchner, Klee und Heckel are on display here, among others. On the top floor, post 1945 German art can be seen - works of Beuys, Baselitz and Richter are included among these. In addition there are regularly changing exhibitions here which are often devoted to contemporary art.
Just a 1 day trip into Bonn; caught an exhibition at the Kunst und Ausstellungshalle. Turned out to be an exhibition of gravegifts from the Egyptian pharaos. Including king Tut's childhood toys.
The one day was not enough to cover more museums. This part of town is loaded with museums. Tickets can be bought in advance (on line), so no queing at the gates.
Easy parking too. But make sure you have a map or car navigation equipment. The route to this part of time is very poorly indicated. The route signs don't offer much help!
