The Friary is the sort of place that you see less and less of nowadays, a cafe with a devoted but truly diverse following. What brings students, estate agents muttering into mobile phones, young families, 'alternative' types and pensioners, here? Is it their excellent music selection of jazz and indie/1980s new wave tapes? Is it their free daily newspapers? Or, is it simply that they serve up full-cooked English breakfasts plus a wide range of home-made menu items with vegetarian options, all for under a fiver? A standard English breakfast consists of egg, bacon, chips, beans and sausage and there's no better way to start the day! There's a smoke-free dining area in the basement, a liquor license and kids are welcome.
