Zona Arqueológica de Tulum

Description

Located 130 kilometers from Cancún is one of the most prominent archaeological sites of the Yucatán peninsula called the Zona Arqueológica de Tulum. Tulum is situated on the edge of a cliff and offers a beautiful view of the Caribbean. It has its own beach and an impressive archaeological area available for touring. The major focus of this site is the construction of this ancient city which dates back to between 1200 and 1400 CE, and displays similar building styles to Chichen Itzá and Uxmal. Ask at your hotel reception about transport times and prices.

Not to be missed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
Do not miss this when in the area...bring your snorkling gear...the view from within the ocean is just as good if not better than the one from the beach...visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the heat and for nicer light/shadow spectacle and to avoid the noon Cancun crowds

Tulum is a great day trip
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
We drove from Cancun from Tulum it wasnt bad at all. I would recommend doing the drive yourself instead of paying for a day trip. Rent a car and drive and its only like 35 pesos to get in. I read reviews that for archeological buildings they arent the greatest but the setting more than makes up for it. My favorite pictures from our trip was of this site.

Ruins by the sea
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
Awesome ruins in the most beautiful setting. Many buildings to see. Easy way to spend a day. Just a short drive from Cancun. I will return on my next trip to Cancun. It is nice that there are markers to explain about the ruins....in 3 languages.

Educational and beautiful!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
We visited the Mayan ruins in Tulum in October, 2003. Being the only Mayan civilization built by the sea, this was a beautiful site to visit. Our tour guide spoke English very well and so we learned a lot about the Mayan civilization that morning. Walking in to the Mayan ruins, you will pass a little shopping center where you can find some reasonable prices on merchandise after dickering on price for a bit. You might even want to take your bathing suits to the Tulum ruins as there is a beautiful spot to swim!

Nice short trip from Cancun
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
This site was very nice trip to go see. I agree with the other review and recomend you take a swimsiut there is a beautiful beach accesss right from the ruins to swim at. Be certain if you stop at the small shops to bargain your purchase price DO NOT pay asking price . Also if you like to look at Iguanas bring a camera there EVERYWHERE.

DO NOT MISS TULUM
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
This is without a doubt the most beautiful thing I have ever seen. I am in love with Egypt and this was probably as close as I will ever get. There are Mayan temples right on the top of a hill/cliff and next to the most amazing blue water I have ever seen. This place has so much energy it is almost as if you can picture the site when it was in its prime.

Ruins by the Sea
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/06/2005
Stunningly beautiful. Tour very accessible Mayan ruins - the only walled Mayan city where the fourth wall is a coral reef. See the unique temple / light house and how friendly ships were able to not smak into the reef. In excellent condition. On the scale, a small ruins, probably not as significant as others - but a wonderful trip.
