Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, Cape Town

The Cape Peninsula is possibly one of the most spectacular combination of sea and mountain scenery in the world. At Cape Point, one also finds a treasure house of some 1200 different species of fynbos (Afrikaans for ‘fine bush') vegetation of the Cape floral kingdom. Follow one of the many trails in the park and spot some of the 250 or so species of birds from the large black eagle down to the tiny brightly colored sunbird and sugarbird. Southern Right whales may also be seen when they return to our waters to mate and give birth to their calves from July to December. For the not so active, there is the Cape Point funicular to take you up to the lighthouse built some 87 meters above sea level, and the Two Oceans restaurant for breakfast or lunch. There are swimming, angling and diving spots and there is an overnight hut for a two-day hike at the Reserve. Shipwrecks, blockhouses and the furthest South Western point of Africa are at the Cape of Good Hope.
