Vintner's Rooms (The)
A visit to this 17th-century wine warehouse with its fine food and relaxing atmosphere is a joy. The main high-ceiling room holds the well-stocked bar and has large tables surrounded by colorful tapestries. For a more intimate candlelit dining experience, choose a table in the non-smoking space at the farther end of the room. The wine list is as extensive and well constructed as you would expect from a restaurant of this name; there is plenty of French flair, along with many a New World contender. A very enticing, modern, French Provençal menu is offered, with a strong seafood selection and a decent number of vegetarian options.
We loved its historic site, and the wonderful milieu this gave to the dining room. The food was exceptionally good, even for Edinburgh. There is plenty of space, and the service was impeccable, very friendly and welcoming - and highly informed regarding the food and brilliant on the advice re wine. We had no sense of rush, and every sense of relaxed enjoyment. A wholly delighful and enjoyable experience, at a relatively very reasonable cost, given the all-round quality.
