Description

Elephant House is a spacious cafe popular with professionals and students alike, and offers fine views of Edinburgh Castle and Greyfriars Kirk from its back room. There is wide range of coffees, teas, pastries and light meals to choose from whilst you bask in the restful ambiance. Ask for one of the available boardgames and set it out on one of the large tables in front of the Georgian fireplace. Health conscious visitors will appreciate the non-smoking section of the cafe, whilst Feng Shui fans will love its balanced design.

The 3 non-smoking tables in this cramped cafe are stuck at the counter next to the internet users. Since its change over the past years the food and coffee leaves little to write home about.

Elephant House

excellent. the laid back atmosphere is somewhere you can sit in all day if it wasn't in the centre of busy edinburgh. the internet access a tad expensive, but the refil coffee's are cheap and the tea is fantastic (words of my wife). we were tourists in edinburgh and this was a perfect place for a fresh croissant in the morning, a great place to take in the beauty of edinburgh. the staff were all very friednly and genuienly looking like they were happy to be there, friendly, laid back but not a cheesy american "have a nice day" type. all in all a great place to go, just for a snack and an experience. my youngest daughter loves her t-shirt she bought from the elephant house, "retro" apperently. maybe i'll get myself one next year, and a cup, and a pen, and a postcard...

My diary, my coffee and I
By ,
I am originally from the Isle of Mull and had heard of the wonder of 'The Elephant House' by many friends and passers by. I went last week, after living in Edinburgh for 1 & 1/2 years on and off in between travelling, and I sat down with my coffee and my diary and ended up sitting there for 4 1/2 hours writing in my diary looking out the window, enjoying conversations with new and exciting people, it was fantastic and a MUST if you are in Edinburgh. I shall be returning on a regular basis now and I reccommend you check it out too!! Thank you all @ the Elephant House, you are providing a fantastic haven for people from all walks of life! What a gift to give!
