It might surprise you to learn that Glastonbury is not just the name of the country's biggest music festival. No, that actually gets it's name from this small town near to the festival site. It's a place that is held in great affection by new age types, archaeologists and anyone interested in ancient and mysterious English history. Reputedly the point where many ley lines come together (man), there certainly is some deep spiritual energy to this place. Visit the Glastonbury Tor (about a mile's walk) which is essentially a hill overlooking the town, steeped in legend. Pay a visit to the Glastonbury Abbey, beautiful ruins standing in some lovely countryside and supposedly the resting place of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere. Or drop by the Chalice Well (at the end of Wellhouse Lane) which is meant to be where the Holy Grail is hidden. For a break from history, just wander around all the hippie shops and cafes and take in the unique atmosphere.
