Schloß Ambras

Description

This palace was turned into a museum by Archduke Ferdinand II. The Wunderkammer (Gallery of Wonders) contains a display of exotic objects like coral, ivory, a rhinoceros' horn and other artifacts brought back to Europe by the explorers. The upper part of the palace houses the Habsburg's portrait gallery: an awe-inspiring collection of works by Cranach, Mor, Titian, Van Dyck and Velásquez.

A must for late period armour enthusiasts
By ,
Schloss Ambras has an impressive collection of 16th and 17th century arms, armour and art. It is a must see if you are an armour junkie and in the Tyrol.
