Schiffergesellschaft is a rustic restaurant, owned by the Lübeck Seafarer's Society since 1535 and is one of the oldest and most popular places in town. Generally full, the waiters always manage to keep on top of things and the quality of the food is never less than exceptional. The interior is furnished with antique tables and the walls are decorated with model ships and maritime antiques. As expected, the menu features local fish dishes like plaice and herring, but it also offers a variety of soups, meat dishes and seasonal specialties. The Gotteskeller bar is particularly cozy and can be booked for festivities.
Great atmosphere in this busy restaurant both at lunch and in the evening. I understand this is the oldest restaurant in Luebeck. Seating is at long tables, which were once occupied by sailors. This theme is carried throughout the restaurant. Service is good considering this place attracts lots of larger groups of mainly business people. Mainly German menu. Your bread arrives with chunks of salted lard!! Not as bad as it sounds. If you want atmosphere and reasonable food, give it a go. Would not recommend it for a romantic tryst though!!
