Leo Carrillo State Park
Leo Carrillo State Beach, located about 30 miles north of Santa Monica, was named after Leo Carrillo, a radio and TV performer. It allows leashed dogs everywhere except between towers 2 and 3. If you walk up under the freeway you will find lots of nice trails, but be careful of snakes. There's a snack bar across the street at the base of the mountain. The beach also features caves and the potential to observe marine animals as they pass by.
I've been going to Leo Carillo for years and I think its a great place to camp. No, you can't camp on the beach, but its such a short walk to the sand and surf. I've tented it and motorhomed and have never had a negative experience. If you can get a spot....go for it and enjoy it for what it is....CAMPING!
We go here every new years for camping and celebrating. Most campsite are good. But southside ones are very small and no good if you're tenting it. Too many motorhomes during the winter, with their generators as the campers watch TV, GO HOME IF YOU WANT TO WATCH TV.
