Musée de Marrakech
Description
Founded by patron Omar Ben Jelloun (the former President of the African Automobile Industry) in 1997, the Museum of Marrakech is situated right at the heart of the medina within the former Mnebhi Palace. This beautiful restored palace was built around a patio at the end of the 19th century and Ben Jelloun renovated the Palace in just nine months with the help of his cultural foundation. The permanent collection displays contemporary Moroccan art, various Koranic manuscripts from different regions, jewelry, ancient furniture mainly manufactured in the Atlas region, and some fine ceramics from Fes. Moreover, it hosts temporary exhibitions of Moroccan contemporary art in the former kitchen and in the former Hammam of the palace. You will also find a bookstore with a nice coffeehouse in the former stables.
