It was built in 1840 by King Ludwig I's architect Maffei to provide first-class lodgings for visitors to the nearby palace. The Montgelas Palace, which the hotel bought in 1969, was initially a Minister's residence and later became the seat of the royal administration. The Hotel Bayerischer Hof offers an excellent variety of different room styles, which include cosmopolitan, traditional Bavarian, or classical in the style of the Montgelas Palace.
