Rooms are newly renovated, clean and nice. Grounds are very attractive - lots of grass with bunnies all over the place, at least 3-pools (not heated)and a small golf course. Great location next to back bay for birders in fall-winter-spring. Good rates for seniors and other special deals. Rack rate is ok. Valet parking is convenient but they still leave the car outside. Staff is well trained and very friendly but dining room (which is being rebuilt now) and bar can be a problem when the place is busy. We stay there about 4-times per year to attend events at the Performing Arts Center of Orance County in Costa Mesa about 15-minutes away by car. Its more like a resort - defenitely not your high-rise urban hotel.

Enjoyable Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/06/2005
I took my new wife to the Newporter for our Honeymoon. When I made my reservation there was even a box to check if it was a honeymoon, so I had high hopes. Instead my check-in was delayed and the service was mediocre at best. Still, the grounds were gorgeous, the price was reasonable, and the room was very well kept. The location was the best part since we were able to walk or shuttle to most places in the area.

Hyatt Newporter
By maureen, 06/06/2005
We stayed one year ago, and while we enjoyed our trip, the hotel was somewhat disappointing. The room was in need of some upgrades, considering the location and price. They had a seminar going on at night until very late and it was hard to hear our own tv. The pool and jacuzzi were nice, as were the grounds and location. Service in the bar was really really bad. We sat down, and after requesting some assistance twice, left after 30 minutes with no service (no menu, water, etc), and they were not even very busy! I would look at other options, or look for a great deal on an internet site, but I wouldn;t pay full price for what you get here.

Had a great time!!
By j, 06/06/2005
We stayed at the hotel on Aug. 27th thru the 29th and had a wonderful time. The hotel is very peaceful and we didn't even go anywhere the first day we got there. My husband and I and two grown sons walked the grounds and played shuffle board while our room was getting ready. We had requested a room over looking the golf course when making the reservations on line and they gave us a room facing a wall by the pool.We told them we wanted the golf course view and about 45 minutes later we checked into the new room. No hassles in the least. We saw people getting ready for the jazz concert while we played cards outside by the place that you can buy coffee at and watched. We also saw bunnies hopping around which was also very peaceful. We ate breakfast at the buffet there which was pretty good although the waiters and waitresses that we encountered could of been more friendly. But that didn't spoil our fun since the atmosphere was great! The parking is far away like people on the reviews said but my husband would get the car and not make us have to walk the distance. We will most diffently come back next year since our experience was really good!! I would most diffently recommend this place to anyone wanting to get away for a few days to relax. We'll be back next year for another weekend getaway.

Beautiful Hotel
By Lauren, 06/06/2005
I stayed here during the summer when they had the jazz concert. I live about 10 miles from here, but love to stay at the hotel. Unfortunately, it's a little expensive for the rooms being so boring. You see it on the outside and expect the rooms to be romantic or just awesome. But they were small, with small bathrooms and the television was situated in a weird place. (We were trying to watch breaking news on tv). BUT, the food in the restaurant was WONDERFUL and the breakfast was great too. If you want to relax, walk around the grounds... they are incredible. Unfortunately, even if you are a guest of the hotel, they MAKE YOU PAY FOR PARKING EVERYDAY! What is up with that? AND, the parking is FAR away. (Or you can valet for just about the cost of your room!...I'm kidding...but close). Other than that, it is to be experienced. If you are wealthy, and can afford the fancy rooms, this is the place for you. If not... then do yourself a favor... go to the jazz concerts, eat at the hotel, walk around the grounds... and then go home.
