After a 1991 facelift costing $170 million, this downtown landmark reopened to enthusiastic accolades from a sophisticated audience. This is a grand old hotel in the classic tradition, from the marble entrance foyer to the opulent central court where you can sip high tea to the strains of a harp. It is interesting to note that this is the hotel in which Enrico Caruso was staying during the 1906 earthquake.

Beautiful hotel, with a great location. It even has a pool! The restaurants were pricey, but if you can get a deal on the rate, the location is great, with a MUNI access just out the back door.
05 Jun 2005 | laina221The Palace Hotel actually corners on Market Street and is in the heart of San Francisco. Upon entry, you're greeted by a very sophisticated and gorgeous lobby. The weekend we were here, there was an occasional viewing of celebrities.
Our room was rich and tasteful and had a tremendous bathroom, complete with all the amenities you hate to pack for travel. The bedding was an incredibly high thread count and as soft as ever.
If you're staying through a Sunday morning, spend a little more and stay for their Sunday Brunch! It's the best I've ever had and easily the best in town.
We stayed here for Valentine's Day/President's Day in 2004. It has a great downtown location, gorgeous lobby, and very opulent rooms syled in the old-world way. We usually stay in more 'hip' locations but this was a very nice change of pace and I would recommend it.
