When the Marriott first opened at the end of the '80s, it was dubbed by some the "spaceship Marriott." The reason was that it seemed to have arrived from a futuristic world, and in a sense it did. It opened without compromise as a western hotel, offering all the services guests might be used to in any cosmopolitan city. The hotel is now a Warsaw institution. Although it is no longer as unique as it once was, many still remember it fondly as a real symbol of the changes that were coming to Poland.
