Make sure you leave plenty of time for queuing

three stars

I was disappointed that I wasnt told when I bought my ticket, after having queued for 1 hour, that we couldnt even get up to the pedestal of the statue. All tickets for that day had been sold. It was a cold day and walking around the base of the statue did very little for me. However the highlight of the trip was the visit to Ellis Island. Plan to spend around 2 hours here as the tour is very informative and there really is a lot to see. PS Security is taken to an extreme as before we were allowed to board the ferry, we had to take off our coats and shoes before walking through the scanner. This added another 40 minutes of waiting.

I can't wait to go back next year to my favourite place !!!!!

five stars

I didn't dislike anything about New York or the lady herself, the Statue Of Liberty. I loved every minute of being there. Before i went to New York for the first time in November 2003, i loved New York City anyway. I went to New York again in November 2004, and that time i went to see the Statue Of Liberty and it was FANTASTIC! I would love to live in New York! I have an obsession with the City and i love it and i think i always will :)

If you love American history, you will love Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. I wish I had planned a longer visit to this site. The exhibits and the research areas are phenonenal.

Beautiful piece of American History

five stars

I was speechless. Just knowing that this lady greeted my ancestors into this country was amazing. i was there long before 9-11 and we had NO problems getting on the ferry or getting on the island.I also loved the view of the NY Skyline.

Statue is Spectacular!

five stars

the Statue of Liberty is a must see attraction. If you do go, I highly recommend going inside if you get there early enough. You are able to go up to her feet and i must say, the view is spectacular. The only problem is having to get there super early. we got there about 7:00 and our time to go into the Statue was not until 3:00. However, it was definately worth the wait and the money. There are plenty of things to see if you have to wait. So the Statue of Liberty is a MUST see attraction.

Almost not worth it is you have kids!!

three stars

We visited the Statue of Liberty with 3 children, ages 9,5 and 1. The kids were very well behaved considering the long times we spent in LINES!!!! To start with there are not clear signs indicated where the advance ticket sales office is. I waited 10 minutes in the regular line only to be directed to a little window in the corner of the fort. Once you have your tickets you have to go through security before you get on the boat. Everything needs to come off..phones..belts..coats. Even the stroller needs to go through the xray machine. Ours wouldn't fit so it was necessary to do a hand search which took about 15 extra minutes. Then you wait in line for the ferry. Once at the Statue of liberty you need to go through more security which takes even longer. It is disappointing that I couldn't find any info on the Statue's website that indicated strollers would not be allowed through security on the island. You can not bring anything in with you that is larger than a small purse. All strollers (and large umbrellas) must be checked so if you have any small children expect to carry them all the way through the statue. They do provide lockers for a small fee so you can store items that you can not bring in with you. The lines were ridiculous and we went on a cold rainy day, can only imagine what they are like on a nice day. It took us 60 minutes to get through security at the statue. Our 1 yr old was a little hard to contain. Once you finally get in the statue it is almost boring. Younger kids will definitely not be impressed. You walk through a museum and then head up to the elevator which takes you to the base of the pedestal and then you need to walk up several more flights of steps. Once up there all you get to do is look through plexiglass into the statue and then you can walk outside along the base old the statue. All in all I am not sure it is worth waiting to get into the statue. The ferry ride and views from the island are nice but the wait is just ridiculous. I would especially not consider visiting if you have small children. I understand that things are different since 9/11 but what I didn’t understand was why you had to go through security before you left NY and then again on the island.
