For some cheap eats and a more musical bar scene check out the Allentown district (allen and Elmwood). This neighborhood offers a great art fest during June and is notorious for live music every day of the week.

(Report Problem)Like many people from New York City, I expected Buffalo to be boring, dated, and full of snow - in July. This was not the case at all!! The people here are so incredibly nice, it's sick. Chippewa street is as rocking a place to go at night as any in the U.S. - especially if you like Canadian Beer!! Lake Erie is cool, and there are a lot of interesting buildings to look at here. However, there wasn't a lot in terms of shopping, except the mall; and malls aren't fun - and I generally felt that the city was wasting a lot of what it had to offer. It seemed a lot of the newer entertainment developments were happening across the river in Canada. My friends told me that it was mostly because of New York State and local politics, but whatever it was, it was lacking money. Buffalo, like so many of the run-down Victorian houses throughout its neighborly streets, would be such an outstanding destination if only it had the money to fix itself up a little. The suburbs I visited were very nice, too, and very affordable. If only I could find a job here.
Great for: Beaches, Skiing/Snowboarding, Hiking/Camping, History/Culture, Nightlife, Budget Travel

(Report Problem)A great city for all ages. The problem is you know where to go. Find someone that knows the area, not just someone who has been there, but someone that know the area. There is plenty to do, but you need to know where. The food is great. When I say great I mean the best junk food in the nation. Pizza (beetr than NYC, better than Chicago), wings, beef on weck and more. Try Casillos Pizza in Depew. GREAT!!! So much is right about the city. Hopefully the local politicians will get their heads out of their butts and make thechanges that are needed.

(Report Problem)In the summer, there are enough festivals and food to make you gain two pants sizes. Delaware Park is nice and there's a road you can bike or walk on that's shut off to traffic for most of it. The zoo is kind of small but they do a good job with what they have. If you like shopping, the Galaria Mall is a good place to head for an afternoon. It's a small city. I've never gone looking for nightlife there, but walking around during the day, I didn't see signs of places that come alive after the sun sets. If you can make your own entertainment, you'll be fine, but if you want some action, Buffalo is not the place to find it.
