A great hotpotch of stalls, selling every type of souvenier, clothing, DVDs, CDs you name it you can find it. Bargain well it is expected of you. Just past the MacDonalds there is the Anusarn Market, where there are some great open air restuarants, the best, the first on the left as you enter the area. The crab in chilli sauce is delicious. Opposite there are many open air foot massages 60 Baht for half hour - needed after trapsing round the market.

(Report Problem)Shopping at the Night Bazaar was my ultimate favorite memory of Thailand! It's been 6 months since I returned and I still can't stop talking about it. Not only do they have a lot of really great things to buy, but you can barter with the merchants and get some great deals! I bought a Louis Viutton purse and wallet for 1300 baht. If you go to Chiang Mai and love to shop, I wouldn't just recommend going to the Night Bazaar, I would say that it is a must!!!

(Report Problem)the night bazaar is like a manic souvineer shopping spree. if you have the
time, go once or twice just to mill about and check out not only the
merchandise, but also the other travellers purchasing really hideous stuff.
watch someone elso try on a sequinned elephant vest; don't be the guy
that actually buys one.
there are lots of excellent things to pick
up, not to mention tons of good food. on the corner right before mcdonalds,
sample the different flavors of rice flour treats: they look like little
cellophane wrapped gummy triangles and are delicious; go down a bit further
and hang a left to find a whole back area of hawkers and retaurants.
excellent stuff. be brave and you will be rewarded.

(Report Problem)I lived in Chiang Mai for 2 months and made a point to visit the night bazaar at least once a week. I went for the food - mango sticky rice or banana roti, but I always ended up buying something. My favorite item was the wrap around pants and short sets. Really unusual, beautiful patterns, and very comfortable. I've never found anything like them in the U.S. I've also gotten fake watches, although the last time I was there, August 2003, the police were cracking down on fakes and there weren't any on display, but you could go into the "back room" to buy them. The artists who paint portraits from pictures are fantastic. For a small fee they can turn your favorite photo into a work of art using oil paint or pen and ink. Extremely reasonable for the absolute brilliance of some of these copyists. My sister-in-law had one done of her niece which you could swear was a photo. Really excellent work. There are tons of other bargains. Speaking of bargains - don't forget to bargain to get a better price. "Farangs" (foreigners) are always quoted a higher price than locals.

(Report Problem)I recommend portrait paintings from photos by the local artists. High quality work at dirt cheap price; range between 900 Baht to 5000 Baht. Maybe you can start selecting your best picture to turn to a portrait painting.

(Report Problem)Nice. You can buy inexpensive souvenirs here. Price among one and other vendor is on the same range, so you could buy whatever interested to you in any vendor available along the street. They also talk enough english to bargain. It is also a nice place if you do not want to buy but just walk along to enjoy the air.
