The ferry ride is about 2-1/2 hours from Cedar Island to Ocracoke. We have made the trip many times with guests. Bring along some Bloody Mary mix and enjoy the ride. Once ashore, we typically would stay at the Anchorage Inn, just a half block from the ferry terminal and would eat at Howard's Pub. Drive to the lighthouse after dark. Shopping is typical "touristy" things, but then it's a vacation trip. The next morning, drive up the seashore and stop at the many pullouts. It's about an hour up to the Hattaras Ferry. From there, go to Buxton and on up to Roanoke Island, Nag's Head and the Wright Brothers memorial at Kitty Hawk. All can be done in one day, including the Wright museum. From Raleigh, it's a wonderful way to show guests a beautiful, sparsly populated and natural part of the state.

(Report Problem)Ocracoke Island is the best kept secret in America. The beaches are beautiful, the village is charming, and the island atmosphere is terrific. We have been to every beach along the East Coast and this is our personal favorite.
