My friend and I visited the restaurant for the first time last night and though it was wonderful. We went for the early bird menu at about €22 for 2 courses and €28 for three. For starters we both had the carpaccio of beef with rocket, parmesan and truffle oil. It was as good as I've had it anywhere. For mains she had the duck confit and I had the steak sandwich. The duck was very good but could have been a tiny bit more crisp while the steak would make a veggie go meat. Usually a steak sandwich is a short hop from a leathery skinny sole of a shoe but my one was thick juicy and beautifully flavoured. I asked for medium and I got medium. It came with a side of salad and string fries - the fries where so nice. For desert we ordered chocolate honey cake and asian tiramisu. The cake was a bit strange for me - it had some honeycomb thing going on on top but the tiramisu was outstanding. It had pink grapfruit chunks and mango puree mixed the cheese and biscuits - to die for. Anyways can't wait to go back - for that price a bargain!!

(Report Problem)I stumbled onto this gem several years ago. I was a single woman in jeans -- it was filled with business types -- but they greeted me warmly and provided me with the best meal I've ever had in Ireland. They were friendly and kind, and the meal [excellent vodka martini, lobster dinner with salad and a delicious dessert] were under 30 Irish Pounds. I've recommended it to dozens of people through the years and am thrilled it's still there. Good on ye! Can't wait to get back someday. Karen Roberts

(Report Problem)Six of us went to Cooks a couple of nights ago. We were all in total agreement that it was probably the worst restaurant experience we had ever had. The ambience was dark and gloomy (we had to ask for a candle to be lit!), the food was dry and tasteless. Example: Cod with white wine sauce turned out to be potatoe mash with no trace of cod whatever, topped off with a slice of toast which had gone soggy from the steam of the mash. A totally disgusting dish. The chicken was dry and tasteless, the soup was too bitter to get past the first spoonfull. Puddings were ordered but forgotten so arrived after the coffee. Bread, put on the table as we arrived (just as well, as it took fourty minutes for the starters to arrive) was charged as an extra. All in all, an evening to forget. An example of restaurant rip-off that unfortunately continues where management think they can get away with it. There are plenty of good restaurants in Dublin - just keep clear of Cooks.
