The main attraction of the hotel is that it is across the street from Cobo Hall, so its very convenient for people (like me) who are attending a convention there. The rooms are OK, but nothing special, and the high-speed internet access (which they charge for) was down most of the time I was there. The restaurant is pricy but quite good for dinner. The breakfast buffet was very limited and not very good, but that may just have been because it was SAE convention week, and much busier than usual.

I recently stayed at the Pontchartrain on 3-25-05 and I have to say I was prepared for a big disappointment from most of the reviews I read. I have to say it was not bad at all. The rooms were clean and the service was good. The structure is a little worn down but it is an old hotel so what do you expect. You can tell at one time it was a 4 or5 star hotel. I would stay there again the service was good although valet parking was a little pricey. The only complaint I have is the restaurant was closed and there was no room service but there was complimentary breakfast. The bottom line is I expected a 3 star hotel and that's what I got.

For what you get, you're paying too much. The rooms are outdated and unconfortable, especially if you can go a couple blocks away and get a better room for a cheaper price. Also, I requested extra pillows three times, and it took over an hour to receive them. I even offered to pick them up myself, but they said they'd be "right up". The price may have been a lot more due to the location though. It's right across the street from Cobo Center.

Much like Detroit, this hotel sucks! After my stay, I've decided that we should buldoze the city and build a big farm ringed by the suburbs. Its hard to believe I'm still in America when I'm in this craphole. Maybe in Minsk or Moscow, but not in the US.

Overall, the experience was good and I would probably stay at the hotel again, particularly if I want to be downtown, as the location was particularly convenient. The only problem I had was when I asked for a network cable to connect to the Internet in my room. It took almost an hour to get and when I got it, the service didn't work. I was told I'd have to switch rooms to another one that worked, which I did not choose to do.

Appreciated the early check-in accommodation. The room was not clean. There was no bathtub and the shower was filty. The shower floor was painted but the paint was chipped throughout. The bedding were worn, frayed and dingy. The carpet wasn't properly cleaned. While the location was good, I would not recommend this hotel to friends, nor whould I choose to stay there again. -henry Brown

The placement is convienent and the people were very helpful. On the spur of notice always helpful with walkins and the restaurant has friendly people also. I never want to stay anywhere else.
