Great, right in the heart of Madrin. I would stay there in a heart beat again. May be a little high in price. But remember it's vacation and it's worth it!

This is by far the best hotel we ever stayed in. We were in Spain in June 2004 and spent a week at the Palace hotel. The location is one of the best in the city. Right across from Prado museum and wonderful botanical garden. Atocha train station is a couple of minuted by cab. Metro is within 10 minute walk. Tourist buses stop right across the street. Starbucks is right in the building along with store where you can get basic food/ water and Planet Hollywood restaurant. Hotel is especially beautiful inside. It really feels like a palace. And even though it is about 100 years old, everything seems to be new or in perfect condition. Rooms are of a decent size (very large by European standards). Bathrooms are relatively large. We had a balcony -- it was relatively large as well. We needed ice for champagne at around 3am and it was delivered in a nice bucket with a towel, along with 2 champagne glasses (we didn't ask for them). We also needed extra bathrobe (room had only one) and it was delivered really fast along with extra set of slippers. Service is top-notch. Some downsides (These actually could be not important for some): There was no available fridge in the room. There was one but it was for those overpriced mini bottles. Also, the fridge (and TV) were sort of old. It wasn't noisy, just didn't look as perfect as everything else. Also, room does not have coffee maker nor ironing board. I understand that this lack of amenities is due to high luxury class of the hotel. When I called about coffeemaker to be delivered the concierge was surprised why don't we just order tea into the room instead of taking time into making it ourselves. He promised to look for the cofeemaker and I think even wanted to send someone to buy one for us. In the end we received a call with apologies that the hotel does not coffeemaker and cannot satisfy our request. I do not look negatively at this since I understand that in the hotel of this class guests are not expected to make their own coffee or tea. Still, we found it inconvinient. Everything else is great about the hotel. One more thing, in-room safes are also of old models and do not fit notebook computer. We left our laptop, along with other stuff on top of the table and nothing happened to it. TV is somewhat old too. It's not even flat screen; picture is great, though.

Location is grand in this most famous of hotels. This is a must for at least one night. Might be pricey but the location to everything makes it worth it. Heavanly bed, english speaking staff, willing to help and arrange details. Rooms are nice and well decorated with good amenities. Worth the trip.

My husband and I stayed there in the year 2001, and enjoyed it very much. He was handicapped and on a wheelchair and we had great service. We were very pleased. and the hotel was around everything that i needed. I would stay there again.
