Go out to the front of the hotel to the canal restaurant, and you are guarrantee to be "welcomed" by the most obnoxious, care-free waiters in all of Europe. Their level of snootiness easily surpasses anything you can find in Paris, Monaco, etc. We stayed here for 3 nights, and spent several afternoons and evenings out on the front deck restaurant, and were repeatedly horrified to see how the staff here treat clientelle. They seem to be trained to provide this type of high-brow, "how-dare-you-sit-or-eat-here" service. The rest of the hotel is OK, and front desk and concierge service is adequate (not all pleasant, but adequate), rooms are very small, and one single glare from down the nose of one of these waiters is enough to make you want to go elsewhere. Which is exactly what I will do next time I come to Venice. BTW, we ate at 2 other canal front hotel/restaurants, and were pleased to find very courteous staff. So the lack of manners seem to be concentrated amongst the waiters here at the Monaco Grand Canal.
