great place, placencia

four stars

Friendly people with most realizing the value of tourism. If you stay, stay on the ocean side and north of the Tipsy Tuna. The southern end of the penninsula gets real hot during the day, mostly due to shallow water and the lack of shade trees, but they are growing back. Any place you stay will be less than 30 seconds the the water. If you stay a week or so, and get around, your bound to know most of the village by the end of your trip. There is everything you need, since people do live here, groceries etc., but since it is an outpost, and most items are trucked or flew in, prices for some goods can be on the on the high side. A trip to Laughing Bird Caye to snorkel is worth the trip. Most include lunch. Lobster season closes in mid February and reopens in June. Dive trips are also available. The town closes around 10 pm which makes for quiet evenings to gaze at the stars and look for UFO's, but some establishments stay open later if there is something going on. Their slogan, "Barefoot Perfect", really applies, and "no shoes" is accecpted everywhere.
