Will be missed

four stars

Bazaar Del Mundo is one of the places in San Diego where it's just as beautiful and fun during the day, as it is at night, Monday-Sunday. There is never a dull moment in Old Town. If you're a local and just want a place to go for a fun and warm dinner with some friends, Bazaar Del Mundo is the place to go. I've been to Old Town numerouns times as a resident of San Diego and the Bazaar is my favorite place. Of all the restaurants there, Casa De Pico is my favorite, with its inviting outdoor patio dining and live mariachi music. The prices are about $9-$15 a dish which I think is reasonable for the atmosphere, service and quality & quantity of food. One of the few places where you can pick up and go to, and know that it'll be fun and bustling every single day of the week.

One of my favorite places!

five stars

Casa de Pico (in Bazaar del Mundo) has fantastic food, great atmosphere, and fast service. Don't be scared by the line of people waiting to get in - that's a sign of how good it is and the line moves quickly.

A native San Diegan's point of view

five stars

Would you believe, that within a month, they are are going to dismantle my favorite place in San Diego? I wonder what Old Town will be without Bazaar del Mundo. I know some other business will come in and do business as usual in the same spot. I do not think they can make it any better than it is now. I am a native San Diegian and I remember Old Town, San Diego before Bazaar Del Mundo moved in. There was one main attraction, a beautiful candle shop and many houses where people lived. It was not as colorful as it is today. I think the artistic attitude of the owner of Bazaar Del Mundo is what made it attractive to other creative minded small business people. I will definately look forward to visiting Casa de Pico, the restaurant currently situated in Bazaar Del Mundo, when it relocates to the Grossmont Shopping Center. The shops will relocate in Old Town temporairly. Later the shops are due to open in 2006 in another historic location, near Seaport Village. I can't wait to see Bazaar Del Mundo become better than ever after they finalize their series of moves. I just hope that the small businesses of Old Town will survive the impact of their loss of a truly creative enterprise.

A great place to visit

five stars

I love Bazaar Del Mundo. The service and merchandise are tops. I am so sorry it will be changing hands. The B d M is one of San Diego's best place to take visitors. We will miss everything Diane Powers has done for our city.

Take it from a local

four stars

Casa de Pico, Casa de Bandini and all the other little "mexican style" shops make the Bazaar del Mundo a must on any San Diego visit. Whether you spend the afternoon shopping, or have a Margarita with dinner, the Bazaar will give you the feeling of being in Mexico; the hospitality of the people is unparalleled. Don't miss it on your next trip to San Diego.

tourist trap

one star

Do not be mistaken in thinking the Bazaar is old town. There is nothing historical about it. Nor is there anything like mexico about it, unless you count the overpriced folk art they bring up from mexico (hint, a 30 minute trolly ride will save you over 75% off the price.) They have the _worst_ mexican food I have ever had in San Diego. Old Town has it's share of tourist traps too, but it also has some great museums and galleries and stores and restaurants. I say, if you want to go to Old Town anyway, then take a peek in the Bazaar, it wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't make the Bazaar del Mundo a destination in itself.

Interesting shops

four stars

We missed the musicians - probably went there too late - but had plenty of time to explore the various shops. The mineral shop was a favorite (for a rockhound like me!); I found several X-Mas gifts there and they had decent prices on stones & other goodies. I walked out with all kinds of carved stuff, boxes with beautiful agate slabs in the lids & great new rocks to display on my shelves!

I don't recall the name of the restaurant we ate at, but I'd recommend it highly! It was at the end of the Bazaar (the set-up of the Bazzar is more or less U-shaped). There was a *large* sign on the front that talked about the area & the original use of the house the restaurant was located in. Really Good Food!!
