If you can afford it, I would really recommend splashing out on a couple of nights at the Old Cataract. We stayed there on our honeymoon and were treated like a king and queen. The hotel inspired Agatha Christie to write Death on the Nile and oozes with history. If you have a riverview room the sunset takes some beating. You will need to dress up for dinner but at least you won't come into to contact with the usual holiday makers minus a shirt looking for a Sunday Roast! It also makes an excellent base for travelling to Abu Simbel or a trip up the Nile
Great for: History/Culture
