my "Hotel California"

When I first came to El Gouna, I know nothing about the place other that it had a dive centre and it was 30km above Hurghada. When I entered at night time, it struck me how this place was magically enchanting. It seemed to be right taken from an Arabian fairytale. When day broke, I was stunned by the beauty of the place. The architectural style is fantastic and the place breeds calm and peace, something you will not get when visiting Hurghada and Sharm. El Gouna is build after one mans dream to build the perfect city and I can tell its going the correct way. The place is build in the middle of the dessert and is surrounded by salt water lagoons that interconnect with each other creating islands on which the hotels are build. In between the hotels, a little town is build in which you can fine all the commodities you want. and if one place is not good enough, one of the other 2 will do as it has 3 main harts were all the good stuff happens; Down Town, Tamr Henna and the Abu Tig Marina. Getting to and from the hotels to any of these places is easy, either take a Tok Tok (LE 5 per go) or go by bus (LE 10 per week) or take a boat ride down the canals (LE 10 per week). The place boost many dive centres, health clubs, bars with swimming pools and restaurants including nightclubs. And if you don’t like any of these, a 18 hole golf course will keep you busy. If you want to escape and return to the real world, Hurghada is only a bus ride away and you’re back in the hustle and bustle of a big Egyptian town including all the noise. But why do you want to go to a noise town, when you can relax in the pearl of the Red Sea? El Gouna is my "Hotel California", I checked in but I can’t leave.

4 star but should be 5

We visited El Gouna in March of this year. ( 2005 ) We stayed at the Three Corners Ocean View Hotel, situated along one side of the Abu Tig Marina. Nice hotel. 4 star rating is just about right, but with a little bit of effort accompanied by a small outlay of cash this hotel could be a 5 star property. El Gouna was so quiet, apart from a Friday night. We met another couple staying at the Ocean View and palled about with them. We had lunch most days at some of the restaurants round the marina. You could have heard a pin drop, it was so quiet. 1300 hours, or 1 pm, and the streets were deserted. Probably because a lot of people are out on the dive boats. Good beaches, nearly all claimed by the major hotels like the Steugenberger, the Movenpick, the Ocean View etc etc. A very clean resort, a bit like a slightly down market Puerto Banus in Spain. This was our first visit to Egypt. Would we return to El Gouna in the future? Most definately we would return

5 Star Egypt !

Facilities available for varied leisure interests & activities. All Hotels offer top class to good accomodation.Good relaxing base from which to visit Cairo/Luxor etc. A Golfers/scuba Divers paradise. Number of interesting trips available, visitors should be sure to take advantage of very inexpensive local travel by boat on the lagoons or minibus between Hotels etc. Beautifully scenic setting !
