In case you are going to Lapland to relax and to enjoy nature I would like to suggest you the following places. Enontekio, Savukoski and Pudasjärvi (Syote) in the north. A very interesting place is Koli in the Nort Karelia. North Karelia is worth of visiting also in summertime because of the lakes, culture and atmosphire.
Great for: Skiing/Snowboarding, Hiking/Camping, History/Culture, Family Holidays

(Report Problem)We travelled on the First Choice daytrip to Rovaniemi flying from Norwich. The flight was excellent, the stewards were excellent, the captain was friendly (talking about reindeers!) and there was plenty to do to keep the children busy (colouring competitions, songs etc.). It was amazing landing in Rovaniemi as until we reached 3000 feet we couldn't see anything but clouds, and then just trees covered with snow. It was very easy getting from the plane to the coaches everything was very well organised, then a 5 minute trip on the coach to Santa Park. I would have been happy driving around all day looking at the trees and snow though to be honest! Santa Park was busy and not as magical as I would have hoped. My advice would be to go straight to the outdoor activites as that is what I came for. Everything was provided to keep warm and you then trek across the woods (on a snow covered path) to the reindeers etc. This was by far the best bit of the trip, the rides were short but the kids were happy just playing in the snow sliding up and down hills and throwing snowballs. Afterwards we met Father Christmas and he was great, I got emotional seeing my children with the "real" Santa!!! We actually got outside an hour early waiting for the coach so the children played in the snow some more. If I went back I would pick somewhere less busy and commercialised so that we could enjoy more of the outdoor activities and wonderful landscape and that goes for the kids too!
