It's no longer "A Long Way To Tipperary"

five stars

After having been to Ireland several times I can honestly say that Tipperary is one of my favorite places in this beautiful country. It is hard to put into words the charm that is Tipperary, but you don't have to be there long to feel at home. One of our favorite things to do while there is drive through the Glen of Aherlow. You will see some of the most beautiful scenery offered in Ireland, along with archaic ruins and even a lovely little pottery shop, run by a young woman who's creations are works of art. Tipperary is pretty central so you can easily take day trips to many of the popular sites. We have done day trips to Cork and Blarney, Waterford, the Cliffs of Moher and Galway...all comfortably done and back before dark. The city of Limerick,Bunratty village and castle, Cashel Castle and Adere Village, billed as Ireland prettiest village, are all within a half hour's drive.(Let's not talk about driving on the wrong side of the road....that's another whole review). The one con I would offer would be Tipperary's restaurants. There are a couple of hotels with restaurants, but they are not always open, and when they are can be a bit expensive. Even the pubs in Tipperary don't seem to offer much in the way of food, and a decent, moderately priced, family restaurant would be a Godsend. I get around this problem by making sure I eat in whatever town I am visiting for the day, before returning to Tipperary. Another option would be to stay in a B&B that offers dinner. I always stay in Bansha, a little village six miles outside of Tipperary Town. There is a wonderful B&B called the Bansha House. It is a three hundred year old Georgian Mansion, situated on an 82 acre horse farm. The rooms are large, the house is filled with antiques, and the hostess is a wonderful cook. In the morning you can go out and walk the property or visit the stalls out back and see some magnificent thoroughbred horses. If you spend any time in Tipperary be sure and mind yourself now...falling in love with area is sure to be a hazard.
