Less hectic than Florence, particularly in the evening. Good rail links with other tourist centres including Rome which can easily feature as a 'day trip'. Lots of good places to eat and the local are really tourist friendly.
Great for: History/Culture, Theatre/Music
Last Visit: August 2004

(Report Problem)I had the opportunity to live in Siena through my study abroad program. Siena is the most amazing little city I have ever seen. After traveling throughout Italy, it remains my favorite. I love the warmness of the people, the closeness of the community, and all the little secrets within Siena; Many think of Siena as a little city, but Siena is full of life morning, noon, and night. In my 6 months there, there was always something to do. It is also very convenient; you can get to practically anywhere by bus north, south, east, and west. I high recommend you stick with the buses when traveling through Italy. For great cappuccinos I recommend you go to Philadelphia Bar, sounds very American I know, but it is not. Mnay locals go there. Also La Vecchia Trattoria di Via Valerozzi (in the lupa neighborhood). There are great European beauty products at a little store called Profumeria Vieri, which is next to the cafe! There are many great specialty stores to but authentic Italian products. Siena is a great place to be experience the Italian culture; it is everywhere you are.... I can’t wait to move back for good! Ciao!

(Report Problem)I lived in Siena for 3 months during a Study Abroad program! It's my favorite place in ITaly.... It feels a lot like time warp with the Medieval structure of the city! Attend mass at the Duomo and go see Sain Catherine's head! Great people who are so passionate about the Palio! I miss Siena!

(Report Problem)A beautiful city that has such life and activity. The il Campo is a great place to watch life in Siena and enjoy time to relax in a wonderful atmosphere. This was our second time here - twice isn't enough.

(Report Problem)Great one day trip. Lots of little shops. Don't waste money on the museum but the cathedral was nice. The streets leading to the Piazza del Campo was full of character. The Piazza was impressive as well.
