Going to Portugal and not seeing Sintra would be like going to California and not seeing San Francisco. It will be a day you remember for a long time if you visit the Pena palace, the National palace and stroll through the streets of Sintra. My only admonition would be that you choose an out of the way restaurant. The ones right in the center of town are too pricey, too busy and not really emblematic of Portugal.
