A beautiful hidden Polish gem!
The Gothic city of Toruń situated on the grand Vistula River has always been a popular tourist destination for Poles and Germans. However for anyone else...it has somewhat remained a mystery. If anyone comes to Poland from the USA or the UK they tend to fly into Warsaw, spend a few nights there before popping down to Krakow and the Tatra Mountains. Sadly Toruń is usually bypassed. And really it shouldn't be! Much smaller in size than Krakow but equally impressive, Toruń is a really beautiful and historic city. Its most famous citizen was Nicolas Copernicus...and you can still see the house that he was allegedly born in. Thanks to this connection, Toruń has a strong astronmical history and one can visit the Planetarium (although like many Polish attractions has a limited English programme). Like Krakow, Toruń was relatively untouched during WWII...so you can see many original and wonderfully restored buildings. There are many hotels offering comfortable accommodation at no more than $30 a night. I am a New Zealander but live here in Toruń where I teach English to the locals. It is by the far the best place to live in Poland! Am very happy here! Believe you me Toruń is well worth a short visit. You will NOT be disapointed!

I have lived and studied in Torun. Spent there 7 wonderful years. Now I live in Warsaw nad miss Torun - its atmosphere, Gothic monumnets, friends I left there. Try Torun, go there and you'll share my opinion. Find our about Copernicus, medieval Old Town - part of UNESCO World Heritage List, great monuments. Oh God, it was so great there... Why evertything you like so much has to come to an end, eventually...
