The Summer Palace is quite nice and the one remaining place where you can escape the hoards of people, as well a rarity in Beijing-Greenery! trees, paths, bushes, flowers. It also has a few lakes, and interesting historical buildings. It's nice during any season. Some historical building will require walking up steep steps

(Report Problem)I was blown away by the beauty of this park. It is massive and not nearly as crowded as every other place in Beijing.

(Report Problem)this park is huge, you could spend an entire day there. I would have skipped Forbidden City to spend more time here. The lake is serene, the walks clean and level. Hiking up to the top of the hill to the temples is challenging, as there are no signs and the steps are irregular. Suzchow Street was worth the extra 10 yuan to stroll along the water and check out the little shops. Unexpected treat: watching the old men painting calligraphy on the ground with water and large brushes.. fleeting beauty. Go early to beat the tour buses.
