Lived there 3 times

three stars

Yes '77, '87 and 97 thinking about squeezing a trip in in 2007 just to keep the record going. On the plus side it's safe, clean, efficient and well laid out with plenty of greenery in the city. I love the zoo especially the night zoo. The last time I lived there I didn't bother buying a car the public transport system is brilliant (except when it rains and you can't get a taxi). The food is varied and excellent and if you get away from the tourist traps such as Newton Circus quite reasonably priced even along Orchard Road. On the negative side it's boring after about 5 days you will have seen it all. When you live there you realise that Singaporeans live to eat and shop there's not much else to do that's why so many cross the causeway to go to Malaysia at weekends and holidays. I would recommend it as a 3 - 5 day stop-over but if you are holidaying in SE Asia for any longer there are much more interesting and cheaper places to experience.

Why can't U.S cities be more like this?

five stars

Excellent starting point for the rest of Asia. Spick and Span clean, greenery everywhere, Lots of things to do and see, Delicious food, wonderful MRTsubway system, feels safe and every thing is efficient. A little expensive compared to the rest of Asia. Well, It looks like they have created utopia and American mayors should make a trip here to learn from them.

Great for: Beaches, History/Culture, Theatre/Music, Nightlife, Family Holidays

I just love Singapore. Its the number 1 safest country in the world. I love everything about Singapore, the food, the places,...It's just such a PERFECT COUNTRY. yes, it is such a clean, safe, country, transport is conveinient. Oh, and i even took a ride on the MRT(Mass Rapid Transport) Train! Its so cool! There is nobody driving and everything is controlled by computers!! Cool right? But u can only find this kind of train in only some parts of Singapore, i mean if u take a certain train only. And it's so fast! u get a train every 6 mins! ON THE DOT!

A Taste of Southeast Asia in English

four stars

Singapore is very easy to move around in with plenty of taxis available for hire at decent rates. The highlights of our trip included the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari, the latter is not to be missed. Trips into Little India and Chinatown provided unique cultural experiences that seperated Singapore from being just another large city. The variety and quality of foods available were excellent. Most disappointing for our family was Sentosa Island. With the exception of Fort Silosa, the island seemed very touristy with many little activities that could be found in any tourist area, however as a getaway for beach activities it seemed okay. The island is under renovation and going from one activity to another without the use of the island bus, was a nightmare.

Not much I did not like about Singapore. You just have to find what you are interested in. The beaches are beautiful and the night life is great.

Worth every penny

five stars

What should you expect!!?? Singapore is the second largest money maker, money mover in ASIA, Hong Kong being first. The country is amazing and the atmosphere is wonderful. Go with an open mind because there is so much to see and experience and to stay in would be a waste of money. I walked around so much, could not get enough of it, I got blisters at the end of the day!! Singapore is not for the boring and it is not for the cheap. If you go to visit and it is just a once in a lifetime trip then save up because it is worth every penny you spend. Looking for a way to live there.

Sing-Sing (la)

five stars

Sing-jia-po is like no other place in the world, honestly. It is the perfect balance of city and nature; such style and sophistication. When walking through the city/island it is quite easy to get lost and swallowed up because the buldings are so numerous, massive, and pleasing to the eye. The tampines trees line almost every major road and keep the equitorial sun from dotting the faces of the Sings as they meander past the hawker stands and mall centers. I moved their knowing that it was a 'police' state, however i didnt feel pressured at all into conformity; it happened naturally. It seems that cleanliness has been adapted into the local philosophy, so there is no need for the police to take up post on every corner to keep the unsuspecting tourist from spitting. The art scene is growing steadily, as the business scene has been perfected. If you feel so inclined, please support the local art scene in any way possible as the bohemians need the outside influence. For a good hiking through a natural rain forest check out Bukit Timah Summit. The shopping is all on Orchard Rd and the beaches (as well as the southernmost point of continental asia) is on Sentosa Island to the south. Hit up the pink dolphin show while your on Sentosa. The local dish is pepper crab and the famous Durian is a must try. Although it looks like something out of a hospital sock drawer, the taste is like nothing else. Good Luck(la).

I am returning as soon as I can!

five stars

Singapore is a beautiful country. Its people love their country, which is reflected in its residents picking up trash as they walk around without a second thought. When I arrived in Singapore at 3am local time, the main part of the city was pretty vacant but was pristinely clean. It was almost like a model home where everything is furnished but the house is spotless because no one lives there. The city is the same way, but millions of people DO live there! Public transportation is accessible everywhere and is relatively inexpensive. Even doing something like just walking around town looking for new and interesting venues was fun. The arts district on the east coast is particularly beautiful and has great clubs and other night life. There is a riverwalk that has shops, restaurants, and night clubs on both sides of the water. It's particularly beautiful at night. If you don't mind big, densely-packed cities, Singapore is a wonderful place. It has all the benefits of a large city like New York without the dirtiness or crime. Oh, and leave your chewing gum at home -- it's illegal in Singapore. Check different websites for Singapore's stringent laws before arriving.
