As the other reviewers have said, Tunis is nice. But Tunisia as a whole I definitely recommend that women do not travel there without a man. I went with 3 other females and we were continuously harrassed by the men. It got to the point where we were scared to leave the hotel. The men would follow you down the street trying to attract your attention. In the souks (the bazaars) the men would shout out they want to marry us. We could not go anywhere without the local men harrassing us. Our bodies were completely covered so it's not as if it was the way we were dressed that attracted the attention. The only place where we were not harrassed was Tunis. Other than that everywhere else we went in Tunisia we were harrassed. It's a shame because everything else in Tunisia was fantastic: the beaches, the hotel, the sights, the shopping etc. But this one thing ruined our holiday. We did not enjoy the holiday at all and were so glad to leave. Any women out there planning on going to Tunisia, please travel with a man. Or you will get really harrassed. Believe me, it was relentless. We were close to tears.

(Report Problem)This counry is my home away from home. The culture and people are amazing , and hospitality is more than anyone could anticipate. The country offers a variety of landscapes that are breath taking, and the blending of culture from it's historic past brings a wonderful palate for the tongue. Conservative, but yet modernized, Tunisia is the perfect place to visit and an oasis of memories to treasure.

(Report Problem)my husband is from tunisia. we were married in el haouaria. haouaria is surrounded along the sea and in the mountians. it is a popular tourist spot. you have to visit the caves here. tunisia is freindly, safe and generally hassle-free. but still offers an experiance you can genuinely call adventure. tunisia, especially in the north, is recognizably mediterranean in character and very much moulded by a century of french colonial rule. the main language is arabic and french. most speaks english also. as an arab country, it sometimes seems quite middle eastern, but sitting on the top of north africa, it's a far cry from the oil states of the gulf. tunisian culture is firmly rooted in the islamic faith professed by 99 percents of its residents, but religion sits light, not heavy, on lives of its citizens. women have greater equality here than in any other arab country in the world. but french and arab are only two of the many influences that have shaped this land. the country's original berber inhabitants, now largely assimilated inti the arab population, are responsible for much of the culture, the national dish, couscous. "come and visit"!
