As my friends and I pulled into St Ives, we stopped at a convenience store to grab some snacks. I asked the guy at the counter if there was a nice, quiet park by the sea where we could have a picnic. He furrowed his brow and said it would be difficult with the town’s crowds. “Maybe you should try the next town down,” he said helpfully. I should have listened. Western Cornwall by and large is a lush, green region with breathtaking views of the sea. St Ives is the one exception. It is crowded, overpriced, full of militant seagulls that will steal food right our of your hands, and has unnervingly narrow lanes. Despite the number of shops, there is a lack of variety, consisting mainly of simple art galleries, souvenir shops, and restaurants. Cornwall is famous for its natural beauty and St Ives does nothing to enhance that. If you don’t believe me, stop into the convenience store on the edge of town. They’ll tell you.

(Report Problem)I love St Ives, the quaint architecture, tourists and local fishermen. When it is sunny, St Ives is one of the best places on earth (at least that i have visited)
Great for: Beaches, Scuba/Snorkeling, Hiking/Camping, Budget Travel, Family Holidays

(Report Problem)This is a charming village that has captured the grace of the people who once lived there, yet still honors the lives and spirits of those who live there now. I would go back as often as I could afford. Stay right downtown off the front in a flat for the true feeling of emersion!
