I was fortunate enough to visit the Abbey on a Saturday afternoon to experience the "evensong" mass. Its a chance to sit in this glorious architectual masterpiece and soak in the heavenly music of the service.

(Report Problem)A Great Place! Full of history. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting something old!!

(Report Problem)The atmosphere raises your awareness to the higher planes, and visiting the museums and the tombs of the monarchs and great poets and artists can be very moving. The shop sells not only souvenirs (some of which are admittedly tacky) but books about the Abbey and those buried there. Definitely a moving and fun experience.

(Report Problem)Strongly recommend staying for Evensong. It's magical. It is the soul of England.

(Report Problem)It is unlike anything in the States. It is the perfect marriage of beautiful architecture and English history.

(Report Problem)Westminster Abbey just REEKS of history. If you are a history buff, then you know you cannot miss the Abbey. And at £6 for adults, it is one of the biggest bargains in London besides the free British Museum. I can't remember if it cost extra (it probably did), but we went on a guided tour of the Abbey. Our guide was excellent (as were about all the guides we had in our England trip), and made the tour very enjoyable. You will see the tombs of many a king and queen of England, and many of their relatives. The throne on which many of the monarchs have sat for their coronations is also here, though there are some graffiti from some 18th-century miscreants on it. There is also Poets' Corner, which has many of the people who made high school English a horror, with Shakespeare a notable exception (he's buried in Stratford), though there is a monument to him. The British Tomb of the Unknowns is here as well. Westminster Abbey should definitely be on your shortest of short lists of things to do in London.
