Richmond is a great old city with LOTS to do. Numerous festivals and music events, wonderful pulled-pork barbeque, and endless history within the metro area. Plus it's an easy drive to Virginia Beach, Blue Ridge Mountains, Shenandoah Valley, Appalachian Trail, Jamestown/Williamsburg, Washington DC, and dozens of outstanding wineries. Stay in the Hotel Jefferson if you can afford it: amazing! A car is recommended.

My wife and I loved Richmond!!! Lots of history to see in town and close to other places of interests. Virginia is so beautiful!!! It is nice to walk around and actually have scenery and monuments to see along the way.
