Be skeptical of positive reviews

one star

I live in VB. It's not good for locals because the taxes and cost of living is unreasonably high and wages are artificially depreciated by the retired ex-military. As far as tourism goes, what few attractions are available are overpriced. You'll pay twice as much as you would in other tourist beaches. With family in the VB police, I also know that the "low crime" rate usually reported is artificially low due to underreporting and misreporting (eg. public disturbance instead of assault and battery). It is not as safe as the city counsel, police department, or tourism board would lead you to believe. Most of the positive review you find here are posted by hotels, shop owners, and real estate agents trying to keep the influx of tourists to gouge. Until I visited Michigan, Kentucky, Texas, and upstate NY I never realized how rude everyone is here (I thought people were normally inconsiderate). The locals do not care about you unless they can get something from you. I can't wait to get the hell out of here.

""Sandbridge Beach** Avoid Siebert Realty

two stars

My family and I spent two weeks at Sandbridge - beach is wonderful. Rented house from Siebert - 8,000 sq. feet - $10k per week for our entire family - When we arrived - no one had done walk through of house - holes in walls, things broken - including railings at top of second story stairs so that my 18mo. old grandson almost went straight through - poorly equipped kitchen - remotes to tv's not working and so on. There was so much trash around and under the house - including broken bottles and nails it looked like the neighborhood dumping grounds. Then there was the matter of a Siebert maintenance employee selling drugs to one of my daughters. My son in law (a Marine) saw the transaction. I reported the incident to management and they did nothing. I wouldn't have anything to do with that company and neither should you.

Great for: Beaches, Family Holidays

Last Visit: August 2006

Count Down: 60 days!

five stars

I have been to Virginia Beach four times. My first trip was at the age of 8 and my last trip was at age 52. We plan to return again in the summer of 2005. Everything was accessible and easy to locate. There was a holiday atmosphere but it wasn't wild. I especially loved all the shops with all sorts of souvineers. We have been counting the days since our last trip until our return. We feel like we are part of the community and that Virginia Beach is our "other" home.

It could be better.

five stars

I lived at the beach for about five years, if you are not military you really don't "fit" in well with the cost of living, unless your rich. I do not like how there are no shops on the boardwalk like ocean city, md. That you have to risk your life to walk up and down the main street to view shops and walk with your children or family... being harrassed by the young military and locals screaming at you as you walk down the strip. No how much paint they give the hotels or clean up the trail of cars on the strip, it will never compare to OCMD or OCNJ. Some of the city is so scary and dangerous, and other parts are beautiful. The city should pay more attention to their locals than tourist. Like property tax on cars, and it should be free parking for us at the beach!!!

My Favorite Vacation Spot

five stars

My family and I have traveled all over the United States and Virginia Beach is by far the most beautiful. With it's white sand and miles and miles of boardwalk, and area attractions, you never run out of things to do. The atmosphere is exciting, yet safe, and at night you will find music on every street corner. It is blessed with many, many eating establishments, one of the best is Rockafeller's, a seafood place and it's not too expensive either. The lighthouses are something to see and you have to see the "Bridge Tunnel" and don't forget to visit Busch Gardens in Williamburg. The Courtyard Marriott is a wonderful place to call home during your stay. The sunrises over the Atlantic Ocean and you can sit on your private balcony with a cup of coffee and enjoy a view that is priceless. I plan to return to Va. Beach for another week this summer just to enjoy the tranquility of it all. Virginia Beach is my "Gatlinburg (Tn) on the ocean".
