Well it gets pretty tiring hearing about how it's 'just another city' etc etc. One thing about Auckland that I have found hard to beat is the natural beauty if you explore, especially in an outward direction. In all my travels to European cities, Asia and the US I have found the city's to be great, but if you live there what to do on a weekend? Where else can you watch the sunrise on one beach and head an hour across to the other coast for sunset? Sure inner city is a city...what else? But head west, go tramping in the beautiful Waitakeres and visit the many stunning waterfalls (ie fairy falls). Surf/swim at Karekare/Piha/O'Neils/Bethels, get lost at Whatipu and go surfcasting off the sand. or head out east on a fery - waiheke wine tasting/visit stony batter and drive around the island, camp at motuihe island under the stars (for $2) with no one else around. or summit rangitoto. head to long bay regional park for a bbq and swim and climb mt victoria for a beatiful view of the harbour. drive a little north to woodhill forest and go mountain biking. canyon out west under a waterfall, or just watch the sunset on the beach. or go cycling along mission beach and have weekend brunch afterwards, or watch a game at eden park. not to mention dolphin watching, sky city bungy, bridge climb, viaduct dining and other tourist activities. also cheap food and a wide variety of ethnic restaurants, even in many suburbs. cool place to live - you can do almost anything
