Well it gets pretty tiring hearing about how it's 'just another city' etc etc. One thing about Auckland that I have found hard to beat is the natural beauty if you explore, especially in an outward direction. In all my travels to European cities, Asia and the US I have found the city's to be great, but if you live there what to do on a weekend? Where else can you watch the sunrise on one beach and head an hour across to the other coast for sunset? Sure inner city is a city...what else? But head west, go tramping in the beautiful Waitakeres and visit the many stunning waterfalls (ie fairy falls). Surf/swim at Karekare/Piha/O'Neils/Bethels, get lost at Whatipu and go surfcasting off the sand. or head out east on a fery - waiheke wine tasting/visit stony batter and drive around the island, camp at motuihe island under the stars (for $2) with no one else around. or summit rangitoto. head to long bay regional park for a bbq and swim and climb mt victoria for a beatiful view of the harbour. drive a little north to woodhill forest and go mountain biking. canyon out west under a waterfall, or just watch the sunset on the beach. or go cycling along mission beach and have weekend brunch afterwards, or watch a game at eden park. not to mention dolphin watching, sky city bungy, bridge climb, viaduct dining and other tourist activities. also cheap food and a wide variety of ethnic restaurants, even in many suburbs. cool place to live - you can do almost anything

(Report Problem)Auckland is a good starting point to discover one of the friendlyist countries in the world. Within few hours you can drive to the bay of Islands, Cape Reinga, the gorgeous Coromandel Peninsula, and skying/skydiving, snorkeling, snowboarding at Lake Taupo or the Mountains of North island. if you think that is worthwhile, south island will knock you off your feet

(Report Problem)If you love big city life... Auckland nites are very colorful downtown on the waterfront. Auckland also has a Starbucks on ever corner for those who love their caffine. One would have to take a water taxi over to Whikiki Island to really enjoy the beautiy of the coastline beaches where life is slower. Warning... Downtown traffic is a nitemare during rush hours. One must visit the 70 foot tall Maori totem pole located in eastern part of Auckland called "Pou Kapua". Only 3 miles from Auckland airport in Manukau City at the TelstraClear Pacific community event center. Geat place to visit if you like the hustle and bustle of a big city. I enjoyed traveling by bus around the country. By far better service and people who ride the buses compared to Greyhound bus service in the U.S.

(Report Problem)Another big city. Nothing really special. There are better places to go to in New Zealand. I would recommend to only spend a day or two here.

(Report Problem)it was tiring journey for 10 hrs from Kuala Lumpur to Auckland. but when i walk out from arrival hall i can feel fresh air outside and really cant wait to go around city eventhough i have not take my morning bath :) it so wonderful while my wife drove us to North Shore hospital. i found the traffic was quite ok and easy to drive. everyone is professional and been a responsible driver i.e. obey to road rules. i love to spend my time at St.Helliers where i can see the Auckland City from the cliffs near the beach and spend time playing freesbie at Domain Park, park near Auckland Uni campus (im not sure the name ;) ) good place for adventurous person, who like environment, tramping and outdoor activity. it was America's Cup took place at harbour and i spend most of time at Alinghi's camp while waiting for my wife comeback from hospital :) i feel sorry for NZ team.. i wish to have a good job and apply for PR and stay in Auckland/NZ. the cost of living in auckland is quite moderate to compare with other city in the world i.e. Kuala Lumpur, Singapore but quite high to compare with other NZ's cities i.e. Hamilton, Christchurch, Rotorua, etc :) the people is quite friendly with their professional services provided to us anyway, enjoy ur stay/holiday..

(Report Problem)As a family of 5 we arrived in Auckland with high expectations of a fantastic first impression of New Zealand. How disappointed we were...at times we felt we were back in Singapore given the overwhelming South Asian influence, the difference being most of the city centre was dirty and run down. Luckily we stayed in the lovely Viaduct Harbour area which has been redeveloped following the Americas Cup success. Christchurch is a far better bet...we fell in love with it. To sum Auckland up in the words of a fellow New Zealander on the beautiful Coromandel,"Any Aucklanders here? Welcome to New Zealand!"
