The intro to Bali was busy; many lights lotsa bikes. But when day came the sun was hot and the smell of chicken feet floated in the air. I reccomend other towns than Kuta, because it is so busy, but if you are traveling with family it is the best place. If you want to get around it is best to hire a local driver (40$ a day approx). Make sure to check out one of the many local shrines, and pay to get in as tourism is the locals only form of income. For good local eating hit up the hawker stands that take up the sidewalks after the sun goes down (gotta love the chicken feet and fish chips). for fancy dining and a great view of the blue bali water check out 'Ku de ta' (roughly translated 'North of Kuta'). Bring lots of money to spend, once again, as tourism is their only form of income. And in Kuta you can buy such rip off clothing as Armani for a third of the price. Lock up belongings and nice clothes in hotel rooms as they are sometimes swiped by the local pirates.
