beautiful city seoul in korea

five stars

Korea is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. And cities are very clean, people are extreamly kind and rich as much as other developed countries. Korea has a lot of sightseeing, attraction areas, traditional food ect. The most important thing is that a great number of Korean speak English, especially university student. So you don't worry about that. It was very convenient for me. Please remember that price is the most expensive in Asia area except Japan. anyway ...good country !!!

Nice, but let's be real.

three stars

This is a nice, interesting place for a few days, but it is not the glowingly wonderful place some of these posts suggest. (Must be by shills or self-promoters)This will probably get me several not helpful comments. The city is bustling with some very nice historic sites-Kyungbukkung, Biwan, city gates. There are some great markets at Dongdumun and Naemdumun and decent shopping in Itaewon. Insadong is also a nice walk on weekends. The food is hearty and spicy. Some love it or hate it. The people are a mixed bag. 50% or more (mostly those under 40) say they hate Americans, so go figure. I have had mostly good experiences. The thing I like best about Seoul is how the people, through hard work and perseverence built a modern, democratic and caring society with a good standard of living from the ashes of the Korean War. The separation of the 2 Koreas is heartbreaking and something an American cannot completely comprehend. One day, hopefully this will be resolved. In the meantime, visit Korea and Seoul by all means. It is an interesting place and almost all will enjoy it, although I think some posters here suffer from irrational exuberance.

Once you learn how city is laid out, it is eazy to get anywhere in city on public transit. (beats the hetic driving) the are various shopping areas that cover just about every taste, and if your looking for American food it is not longer restricted to iteawon area, but can be foung thruout the city. from burger king to Bennigans they have them all.

Korea-Soso

three stars

Well... didnt enjoy my trip to korea winter 2004...food was lousy onl visited the danyang 8 sights, dongdaemun and palace. Some friends said tht its due to the poor services of my tour agency but i do think that its not as fun as its in japan, china or even hongkong...least to compare it with even europe and the other continents. I'd rather stayed on in spore...

Absolutely gorgeous! Food is amazing and I love it! We take so much for granted here in the States. Koreans have an amazing way of life and they are hard workers!

I am a American living in Seoul now. Korean is an easy language to learn, and just about everybody wants to learn English from you. Gangnam, Shinchon and Hongdae are great for nightlife unless you'd rather go out with other foreigners then visit Itaewon... For shopping, American size clothing is best bought in Itaewon, and there you'll find more international food choices than elsewhere. For specific arts crafts visit Insadong, and for just about everything else there are large markets underground at Gangnam and Express Bus Terminal stops.. if in Korea make sure to visit areas outside of the city too.. take the KTX train down south to Busan, Korea's second largest city, and play at the beach.. back in Seoul there are plenty of temples and suc to check out.. I do recommend the Lonely Planet guide to those spots. Favorite foods here: Korean BBQ, and those fish-shaped things they sell on the streets (they're filled with beans and are sweet and delicious) Must-have souveniers:Korean masks (if you have the time and are here in summer go southward to An Dong and witness the mask festival there), shell inlaid boxes with crane and deer themes (as those two animals are symbolic here of good fortune and long life), many others plus the incredibly cute and cheap stationary in any street shop. Advice: learn a few basics of the language on the plane ride over, and don't be afraid to wander around, the city is amazingly safe for a population of around 12 million and easy to get around. and spend at least one night, if not too bashful, in a Jim-jil-bang (sauna) to relax and unwind... Could say much more.. make sure you plan for holidays as the city shuts down, they don't party like westerners do.. remember to remove shoes where it seems necessary and don't be offended when you've been shoved into without and "excuse me" as personal space here is limited.. That said..enjoy your trip!! ~Anjuli, south die of the River Han
