we just came back from penang and stayed at the lone pine hotel. We had a great time, the staff were so helpful and always had a smile. Its situated right outside the famuos night market. So in the day we travelled on the local bus to George town to shop around. The beach was always busy, and we didnot get hassled too much. We felt we had lots to do and lots of great food to eat. We will go back and to the same place.

(Report Problem)Park Royal Hotel must be one of the best hotels I have stayed in,its 1st class. The staff are friendly and helpful, rooms cleaned every day, choice of food in the resturant is excellent, but eating out is better, it is sooo cheap, just look for a place that looks clean and has plenty of customers. The pool area and the garden are kept so clean and tidy, there are plenty of loungers at any time of the day. Trips are basic and usually end up in a shop allowing!! you to buy if you want too.Hawkers Market excellent, went nearly every night,(CDs&DVDs did not work back home). We took a trip out on a boat to a near by marine park(11/2hrs by boat away)recommended.Snake Temple not as scary as I thought,no snakes hanging from the rafters, butterfly farm, nice, but got abit worried when I saw the insect side ahhhh, made sure I looked where I put my feet after that, although I never saw as much as a lizard. Georgetown could of given a miss but needed to see the shopping centre, and had to have a starbucks!!! mouth hung open on trip to the familyLee's pier, soon shut it again when overcome by smell, would not of missed it though.Lots of other things to see,and we did. An excellent Holiday,so relaxed, tanned and happy, then had to come home, boo hoo

(Report Problem)I'm from Kuala Lumpur and I frequently travel up to Penang because I love its food! It has the best Malaysian food in the country, especially Malaysian-Chinese style, like fried koay teow. I like going to the beach at Batu Feringghi and also to walk around the night markets there. It's very convenient to walk along the whole stretch of Batu Feringghi whether on the beach or the road where the market is. As for the historical buildings, I really like the old Chinese shophouses and mansions, especially being an art student. Things are cheap there too!

(Report Problem)The people are very friendly, and the island is very beautiful. The capitol ity of Georgetown is also very scenic (many historic sights). For RM 25 to RM 50 you can hire a trishaw to take you around town. The drivers give some interesting insight to many of the buildings. English is widely spoken, so communication should not be a problem. Another popular tourist spot is the night market in Batu Feringhi. You can find a wide variety of merchandise ranging from pewter, tourist products, and knockoff watches. While the average American may think they are getting a great deal, few Malaysians shop at the night market, because they view it as too expensive. Before you visit the night market, take a walk through the many shopping centers in Malaysia to see the local prices. While the island is very beautlful, getting from point A to point B can take quite a bit of time. You will experience heavy traffic in the cities, and long winding roads through the hills (most of the island's interior is sparsely populated hills)

(Report Problem)Penang is wonderful and very interesting as other reviews say. I want to concentrate on the hotel on top of Penang Hill. Its famous for its hot pot but what is not so well known is the verandah's unique sights! The roof of the verandah has 10-12 vipers crawling around. Hagman's Pit vipers which are poisonous but non agressive. I have some great video of my son and nieces eating and the Viper curled on a ledge 4-5 feet above them. At one time the snakes would occasionally fall onto the tables below but after several near heart attacks the management has put wire mesh to prevent it. They keep the snakes there as they cut down on rats and mice. Needless to say I would only recommend eating at the hotel, not staying there!!!
