Taipei is an amazing place with so much to offer. Pretty much anything and everything you need is right around the corner (or just downstairs!). Alot of stuff is better value. They have delicious fresh fruits and veggies!

Taiwan My Future Home

five stars

I enjoyed Shilin night market. The food is good. Here you cannot really go wrong. I did not see anything really wild but merely the normal Taiwanese fare. It is all pretty good. Shilin located right outside the MRT Station; it impossible to miss. It is convenient and primarily a food market but there is an area for merchandise. I also enjoyed Hauxi night market; the snake market. There are very good deals on a mixture of merchandise. There is a lot of sea food which is meant to be taken home but there are plenty of food vendors. I went to this market alone, without a Taiwanese friend so I was not very daring that night. The market is also located directly of the Longshan Temple MRT station. When using (I think) exit #1 turn right and walk one block, this should put you at the entrance to Longshan Temple on your right and the market on your left. I suggest having a Taiwanese with you if possible; they will be able to help you “find” the courage you need to have a great time. The MRT’s are very clean and very safe. When you see a sing that says no food or drink they mean “NO FOOD OR DRINK” this is why they are so clean. Do not worry about the missing a stop, unless you fall asleep, because the stops are announced in four languages, Chinese, Cantonese, Japanese, and English. When buying an MRT pass you will find the stop you want to go to and the number you see in the circle is how much money you need to pay. First you press the amount then you put the money in and press the button that says finish or done and your ticket will come out. I also had the opportunity to go to some of the historic sites in the city and also Tienmu. The sites were good but Asian Museums are no different than Western museums, except every thing is in Chinese. I missed the Peitou Hot Springs which I here ae great. You need to check the schedule for the Hot Springs because I think they run in three hour intervals. So if you get there late you have to wait thee hours till the next “shift”. I spent most of my summer in Taichung. I also had the opportunity to visit Hualien which is on the east coast. It is home to Taroko (Tailuge) National Park. If you can get there it is well worth it. It is the most beautiful place on earth. I recommend flying, which is what I did; the train ride is very long. Follow this link to see come pictures of Taroko. All of these places are accessible from Taipei. When traveling in Taiwan you have the option of bus or Train. Their prices are about the same but the buses a generally very nice. Their buses are the opposite of Greyhound. There are of course several levels of niceness from heated, massage seats, where each passenger has his own T.V. with multiple channels to the standard American tour bus. I loved my stay, the people, and the food. You must try things and visit the local places not jus the tourist attractions. Enjoy your visit. Maybe we will se each other in passing. Kyle

taiwan, world class country

five stars

Taiwan is by far the greatest, most beautiful country in the world, despite its petite size. its political system is one of democracy. People are educated and friendly. Hotels are clean and modern. And streets are beautiful and safe. Taiwan has just recently completed its massive, contemporary city transit system. Now for equivallent to $1.00 or less, about 20 to 30 yen, it's relatively easy, fast and convenient to get to any destination; though during peak hours trains tend to get a bit crowded. Taiwan's culture is diverse and fascinating as well. In addition to preserving its own traditions, taiwan is fully open to and influenced by Japanese, european, and american idealisms and trends. anything ranging from food, fashion, theater, scenery, trendiness, people, curteousness is top of the line. Once there you won't want to leave.

Taipei is Very Pleasant

five stars

With the exception of the Place Museum, there is not alot of historical sites in Taipei. However, the Longshan Temple area is quite interesting, the Beikou Hot Springs are unique and a visit to a tea plantation is something different. The people are great, the place reasonably orderly (except for the drivers) and you can have some great Chinese food. Stay out toward the Hyatt or Far Eastern as this is a newer and much nicer part of town. Some older parts of Taipei are old and run down, but safe and interesting nevertheless.

Taipei Rocks!!!

five stars

Taiwan's departments stores are the best. They have all the coolest clothes and stuff you won't see in United States. The Taipei 101(tallest building in the world) is really pretty. Night markets are fun and Taipei have all the cool activities. It's pretty different compare to China
