Salzburg is a great place, although it can be a bit pricy. For budget travelling, try to stick with locals and book well in advance. Salzburg is less crowded in fall, and airfares go down, too. However, the nicer seasons are summer and December, when all of the Baroque city centre seems to be a single christmas market. Planning is essential for every Salzburg visit, I found the available internet sources (http://www.visit-salzburg.net, http://www.salzburg.info) very helpful. Don't miss out on a beer in Muellner Braeu - a unique experience!
Great for: Hiking/Camping, History/Culture, Theatre/Music, Family Holidays

(Report Problem)This is a beautiful, little city in the alps, so familiar if you have seen the movie, "The Sound of Music". You can visit the Mozart house, and there are also some beautiful churches and castles in the city. Not as much theatre as in larger cities but there are some great concerts. The food is very good, and not too ezpensive. Be sure to bring good walking shoes, because Saltzburg is very hilly.

(Report Problem)Salzburg is one of my favorite European cities. My husband and I spent part of our honeymoon there - just magical. We were there during the off season, late fall, so there were no crowds. The Old City takes one back in history. The gardens are beautiful even in fall. The Lakes District nearby is a fantastic side trip, easy with a car. I can't say enough about this special place!

(Report Problem)Salzburg is one of the most beautiful, magical places in Europe. From the Castle overlooking the city to the catacombs. The Mozart festival is a wonderful thing to experience as well.

(Report Problem)Salzburg is an amazing city with all the old world charm that could ever be piled into such a splended city! On my trip there this past summer, I especially liked that Salzburg, meaning "Salt Fortress", that sits upon the hill overlooking the river and town. I had a marvoulous dinner and consert up in the Fortress Restaurant and in the Princes Chambar. I can't wait to get back! P.S. check out Sound Of Music for some sneek peeks of the area!

(Report Problem)The city was easy to get around, the people friendly and the sights beautiful. Next time I will go back in the off season, so the pace can be more liesurely.
