I have been living in Vienna for 3 years now and I still love it. In the spring it is great to stroll in the beautiful parks of Schönbrunn place, with it's beautiful gardens filled with flowers. It's also easy to hop on a train and be in the foothills just outside of vienna such as Baden or Mödling. There you can find many 'wanderwegs' or hiking trails. Vienna has 12 Stadtwanderwegs for those of you that like nature, and you can find out about them at the Tourist office near the Famous Opera house. Another site you won't want to miss is the Church at Kahlenberg, a scenic spot that offers a panoramic view of the entire city (This is where The Austro-Hungarian empire stopped the Turks from advancing several hundred years ago). Hiking trails are also wonderful in the summer, and with the excellent transportation around Austria it is easy to get to Munich (5 hours), Salzburg (3 hours), Budapest (2.5 hours), Prague (4 hours), Graz (2 hours), Klagenfurt (3.5 hours), Innsbrück (5 hours), and Bratislava (45 minutes). In 2010 Vienna is planning on opening the Central European Train station which will be a huge complex spanning about 4 or 5 city blocks on the site of the current Südbahnhof, which will make things even easier (if you've been to Munich hauptbahnhof then you'll know what Vienna's will look like then). The Viennese speak excellent English for the most part but are still very closed minded about racial integration. I hope you enjoy this amazing city!
